“(Jeff) Hunt has made the St. Charles Singers a splendidly disciplined beautifully responsive group, and Rutter took full advantage of what the 32-voice mixed chorus had to offer….Chamber chorus singing doesn’t get much better than this.”
–John von Rhein, concert review, Chicago Tribune,
May 24, 2010
“This group is so flexible and sensitive to the differences in style of music it performs, and they have a tremendous respect for one another…I was very impressed with his (Jeff Hunt’s) choir. This is a musical instrument I could work with, and with very congenial people who were doing something very unique in their community.”
–Jon Rutter, English choral music composer and conductor in an interview with Bryant Manning, Chicago Sun-Times, May 21, 2010
“Conductor Jeff Hunt played a key role in the group’s triumph–Superlative Singing in the West Loop.”
–Tim Sawyier, Chicago Classical Music,
February 1, 2010
“Really it’s the chorus that makes these arrangements stand out; their bright, focused sound is invariably pleasing…”
–Dan Morgan, CD review, MusicWeb International,
July 2008.
“The St. Charles Singers peppily render ten “Old American Songs” drawn from minstrel tunes, folk ballads, children’s songs, hymns, and lullabies…the singers play up the jovial schmaltz making guilty pleasures of sing-alongs…”
–Bryant Manning, CD review, Time Out Chicago,
June 2008
